The new girl

Well my first day went well! 3 hours of pattern cutting flew by last wednesday. Only ever used an industrial sewing machine once and forgot how fast they are! We've pretty much just been tought the basics, obviously on our first lesson, but everything and everyone seems nice. I didnt realise how big York college was! Its HUGE! The only thing they have to fix is the webcam they take your student card picture with!! I'm joking but my picture isn't winning any prises! Hopefully through this course if any of you are interested in pattern cutting I can tell you if this is a good course for you or just give you hints and tips I pick up along the way!

Happy making!

Wish me luck!!

Hi everyone!!

Just a quick one, I'm starting 3, 30 day challenges including squats, arms and abs. These 3 tables I just download from google.
(Not waiting until monday so I have an extra weekend to eat more junk like I would usually do, so this is a good sign!)

I'm going to stick it out and won't quit! Let me know if you have done any of these before I'd love to hear about how you got on with them or if they are actually any good, or start them with me! Some company would be great!

I'll check in half way and let you know how its going! And at the end I'll share my results and if I see any improvements.

Good luck if your starting too!

Lets do this!!

In the tub!

It's bath time!!
Here is what I use and some tips for keeping your hair and face glowing! I'm not the best at having new hair styles, how ever much I would like to try them ( I do like to change the colour more than anything), so I like to make it look as shiny and healthy as possible!

HAIR

I've been trying for a while to find the perfect combination of hair products to keep my hair shiny and healthy on a budget! especially as I swim a lot I tend to get dry and brittle hair which splits and breaks very easily. Everyone's hair is different and what I use may not be ok for everyone but what I swear by now for my hair is alternate shampoos of Aussie "take the heat" and Pantene pro V XL "volume and body" I think this is one of the best volume shampoos, if its quick volume you want this one is good for you. I also dry my hair upside down for a bigger finish.

After my hair regime

When I use the volume and body shampoo I will use a spray heat protector like the Vo5 one pictured Which also give your hair a lovely shine and smells pretty nice too, I use this every time I straighten or curl. And when I use the heat protect shampoo I will use a voluming mousse like the TRESemmé one shown It makes your hair very thick and healthly the only thing I don't like about It is sometimes it leaves a rubbery kind of feeling to your hair, which does fade after a while.

BODY

I first found this honey soap shopping for a mothers Birthday present, and since that great day I get it every time I'm in a cash splashing mood because for soap its quite a luxury. From LUSH, it's called "honey I washed the kids" £3.40 per 100g but well worth it! it leaves your skin feeling so smooth and smell delicious and I find that there is no need to moisturise afterwards although if I do I'll always use Nivia or Cien.

Alternate to the soap the shop assistant recommended the "its raining men" shower gel for hair and body, so this is my next one to try. I'll let you know what its like. LUSH are also against animal testing which (as a Vegi and a lover of all animals) I wholeheartedly support!

FACE:

I'm lucky in the fact that I don't get that many spots and I have quite good skin, the only thing I battle with is the odd patches of dry skin which stay at bay with this nifty relaxing trick I picked up. When you have the time for a nice relaxing bath armed with only a flannel and a pot of Vaseline, evenly spread the Vaseline over your face avoiding the eye area to a medium thickness and place a warm damp flannel over the top obviously make sure you can breathe and leave on for a couple of minutes re-soaking the flannel, keeping it warm. wipe off then you are done. You can also do this whilst your conditioner is in to save some time. Also this is supposed to be good for wrinkles. I'll never had such bright healthy skin!

After I wash my face I rise it with freezing cold water to close the pores and try to not use make up for a little while to let my skin breathe.

Enjoy your tub time!

Let me know whats good for you, I would love to try some new products out.

Refreshing hot salsa!

MY SALSA

This quick and easy salsa only takes about 15 minutes to make ( just a lot of chopping!) As you can see everything is just roughly diced quite small. You can use as much or as lttle as you like of anything but I really like all these flavors together. also the time I choose to blog about my favorate salsa the avocado had gone off!! but I thought what better way to show you that you don't have to follow a recpe than this! (but adding the avocado does bring the whole salsa together.)

Shopping List

2-3 medium sized tomatoes
2 small or 1 medium (prefferably red) onion
1 stick of celery
1 chilli
a handful of radishes
1 bell pepper
1 avocado
about 1-2 tps of olive oil
1 lime
salt and pepper
corriander (dried or fresh)

How to:

Roughly dice everything I like to remove the seeds from the tomato before chopping it, I'd normally leave them in for other dishes but for this it makes the mixture slightly too wet. add all chopped veg into one bowl and mix together. add the oil and then season to taste. if it's not that spicy or you just want to add an extra bite then I like to add either hot chilli power or paprika! Squeese over the lime and your done!!

This salsa can be eaten with many things or on its own. I make it for partys and have a bag of Tortilla chips and/or as a healthier option some gem letiuce and some yoghurt if wanted.

It's also great with Burritos, fajitas, tacos and anything really!

Enjoy!

Say no to diets...

...Say yes to eating healthily! My top tips for eating better. helping towards a healthier you!
I'm in the same boat as so many people sharing the same goal as me. To get fitter and healthier but not having a mad chuck out session of everything bad in your kitchen. Lets do this together and whatever your goal is, whether it's to just look good in THAT dress, loose however many pounds you have in mind, maintain the same weight you are now or just a new healthier you!

I'm just getting into this myself, its not always easy and yes it might be hard at times but eating healthily is not a fad diet it doesnt cut out any foods, its just a way of keeping track of what actually goes into your body.
So lets get started! Here are a few starter points:

• DON'T ban any foods.
If you are thinking of completely cutting out one food group think again! Restricting yourself from anything is just going to make you want it more. Have a little of what you like every now and then to stop you from missing it or worse binging on it!!

Take chocolate for example say "I'm not going to eat any chocolate for a month!" Whats the first thing you want? Even if you dont eat it that much, as soon as you deny yourself, I guarantee you will want it more.

My pitfall... Carbs I thought people where crazy to deny themselves anything bread, pasta or rice related. So I tried it and from breakfast to dinner I was craving a huge sandwhich or a massive vat of pasta!!

• Exercise! We must exersise to burn off extra calories that just healthy eating cannot. Exercise does not mean joining a gym or having to spend a thing! Make your own exercise routine, have you got stairs? A garden? A street?! You can get fit anywhere!
Obviously there is a choice of fittness dvds and yes they are brilliant and millions to choose from, from yoga to kickboxing and everything in between. But even then if you do it every day you may get bored of it. Unless you can get an array.

If not, go running with a friend or join a running club. Set yourself your own routine at home, there are many web sites and books to help you find the right exercises for you! Run up and down stairs, do squats whilst brushing your teeth, every little helps!

• Always eat breakfast! Everyone knows this meal sets you up for the day! Also it has been proven that eating breakfast will help you burn more calories throughout the day!

• eat lots of fibre!! Fruit, veg, oats, wheat and pulses are high in fibre keeping you fuller for longer.

• Drink lots of water! Water is good for EVERYTHING, keeping you hydrated, fresh, allert and is helpfull in loosing weight. If you drink a big glass of water before and throughout eating you tend to get fuller faster.

I'll put some more hopefully helpful tips up as I find them myself, or as I remember them :D

Tomato and avacado power salad

POWER SALAD

I read in 'Women's Health' recently that avocado and tomatoes together are the perfect combo, and when eaten together, you absorb 15 times more of the tomatoes cell-defending benefits than you would just eating a tomato.
So, I have come up with this simple salad which is delicious and as explained above, so good for you!! and most of the stuff you will have at home.

Shopping list
1 small or 1/2 a big Avocado
1 big or a hand full of small tomato(s) of your choice
1/2 a Mozzarella ball
Olives
Basil
Salt
pepper
Olive oil
Balsamic vinegar

Slice the tomatoes into circles and cut the avocado into thin wedges arrange onto a plate and tear up the cheese and place on top. scatter over the olives and basil, season with salt and pepper and drizzle over the olive oil and the balsamic vinegar.
ALL DONE!

Enjoy
